What Is MIL-STD-348?

“To enable interoperability amongst RF systems, the military and industry rely on standardized dimensions and types of coaxial connectors. The two major standards that define coaxial connectors for the US military are MIL-STD-348 and MIL-PRF-39012.“ (McNeil, 2019)

MIL-STD-348 is a RF connector interface for radio frequency coaxial, tri-axial, and twin-axial connectors. It is the most comprehensive set of mechanical specifications for RF/microwave connectors.

Features Of Chin Nan's MIL-STD-348B Connectors

1. Upgraded performance

2. Rigid tolerance and dimension control

3. Ensures products to meet consistent stability, reliability and compatibility

4. Most comprehensive set of mechanical specifications announced by US Department of Defense in January 2017

What Are Differences Between A & B Of MIL-STD-348?

MIL-STD-348B is a major re-write of the previous edition, which is MIL-STD-348A. The latest edition contains a wealth of information necessary for correctly fulfilling contracts that make use of the applicable military specifications.

In case of confusion caused by the meanings sating with alphabetical letter, we will explain terms defined by DSP (Defense Standardization Program) in the following graphics.MIL-STD-348B_Definition of Document Type

Dimension Modifications

Besides new series added in 348B, compared to the same part specified between 348A and 348B, there are some dimensions modified, please see the graphic below.

The manufacturers have to be very careful to those modifications and control the tolerance while designing and machining. The modifications help improve the compatibility and the interoperability among connectors or on the device.

Why Should I Choose MIL-STD-348B?

To respond to growing demands of actual electronic products, staying on the top standards meet industrial trends help engineers reach the best performance and applicability in design.

MIL-STD-348B helps achieve interoperability, which ensures products meeting consistent stability, reliability and compatibility.

In addition to manufacturing connectors on the basis of on MIL-STD-348B specifications, Chin Nan also improves the electrical performance at the same time.

Such upgrade can help engineers achieve the best performance while designing or prototyping in using our products with different components from different suppliers.

For example, with the updated tolerance on the SMP series connector, the angles involved for shrouds, effectively solving problems resulting from the tip of the socket failing to fully detent into the shroud. (Shaff, 2017)
